Art as Therapy, Self Expressionism as Therapy for the Artist 2025

Just a few thoughts upon the collective altruism being expressed and wish to utilize Art as Therapy or all the other ism's and names. To start with , you should have a solid background in Art As Healing, Edward Adamson or understand the concepts of Psychorealism, Pailthorpe and Mednikoff. Then go back to painting as a child to grasp Picasso 's drive to fully appreciate the innate creative process within humans and then respect its power in the confidentiality of the therapeutic relationship ,or art as a well being activity. Then and only then can you begin to finger paint with the organic matter that either enters or leaves your orifices. Adamson' s Art Therapy space held the boundaries and importance of self healing through the creative process.

As with all the comments that support Cathy Malchiodi I quite agree with the necessity to ringfence the professionalism of Art Psychotherapy/Therapists but who is the gatekeeper of creativity and therapy. I frequently revert back to Adamson Art as Healing for a clarity of the innate creativity healing process . Like Ism's there are a lot of therapies and dangers of creating the pyramid of power .

When actually the person holds this in themselves within their DNA to play with food as a baby stimulates the flow of breast milk with their tiny fingers flexing and sucking to create a pleasing self rewarding external action that's ingested for their wellbeing as in creating art for oneself "Outsider Art" or smearing Poop for the delights of others to, exhibit art .

The innate creative process is the key to art as therapy wellbeing creative activities and not to be directive encourages self expression, until the person is lost to the illness.

But there is a place that we can all go back to ,our own procreation and my attempt to share aspects of that with my Mum,suffering dementia and generalised deterioration of bodily functions during Covid lockdown visits to see her in the secure dementia unit were difficult but I stepped back into creativity to once more bond and share our bond of birth mother and son to thank her for giving birth to me from her womb.

So I draw her seahorses and she colours them in .

Barbie Review over Whatsapp, 2023

Full of quotes and references, amusingly thoughtful and at the same time provoking lots of PC debate. I never knew they had a sugar daddy or Pregnant Barbie. Being immersed in the plastic world was surreal yet a worryingly accurate pastiche of society behaviour and trend values etc.

I felt it's plot faulted two thirds through and ending was an ambivalent run out of film kind of escape. Oh I've woken up it was all a dream...wait a minute of course Barbie has a pussy now and Ken a willy, every person should have a life-size dolly in their white cube living space. I really felt for Alan the friend searching for the Existential meaning to life.

Obviously a classic film that will change the world's perception of what it is to be plastic.

Well meandering through my thoughts it occurred as to how autobiographical my art work is, maybe more on an emotional expressive way akin to principles of art therapy with the sublimated references and symbolism but none the less it tells a story through my life....it's my story line ... that's all just thinking reflecting and realising the ambiguity of how one lives one's life Francis Bacon again, with accident chance and the randomised life path. Well what's that about he's got lots of books written about his life art etc all explicitly graphic about being a life in the gilded gutter as is the impact of his paintings. The cost being a transient life of disclosures and lonesome death .... it makes me reflect upon what people have been saying about censorship of my thoughts feelings images and psycho nuance to content .

That's what it's sparked off in me ....I don't want to miss out on my potential to embrace and devolve all my nuances publically

but at the same time the need to be Conformist overrides the inner disclosures.

Well Scotch Whisky took me to a dark place , Ouzo spaced me out , gin made me sociable but good quality vodka mellows the mind . Then I found Religion full of hypocrisy abuse and power seeking evangelicals so I settled upon inner creativity and it's evolutionary theory as spurned by mother Earth and I am but a small grain of sand upon it's surface.

Self belief is linked to creativity my art work is an expression of that externalised , bringing to life seeds to plant in the minds of others.

There exists a perpetually shifting of focus for me upon the polarity of spiritualism with the worlds Religions being the extremes.

Yet even the avid Atheists have no idea as to how or why the universe exists , even Francis Bacon's explanations for existence are flawed , his view being life is nothing but chance ,an accidental occurrence.....he followed chance as a guide to his life ..
